From the Principal
Dear members of our school community,
I have a question for you: Do you know what the current education system can and cannot do for people? Today, I'd like to share my thoughts on this. You've come to Qs School, but do you know why we're called Qs? It represents multiple "Qs," such as IQ, EQ, PQ, AQ, and SQ.
IQ: A love for learning and growth, continuously improving skills and abilities.
EQ: The ability to manage emotions, having a heart filled with joy, love, and freedom.
PQ: Physical health, a balanced body and mind full of vitality and energy.
AQ: A person's resilience, persistence, sense of responsibility, and ability to cope when facing adversity and challenges.
SQ: Spiritual quotient.
What is spiritual quotient or spiritual intelligence? Some say that spiritual intelligence is the ultimate intelligence of humans. People's success depends on IQ and EQ, which in turn depend on SQ.
But what is SQ and its role? Let me give a few simple examples.
If you find it hard to control your emotions, feel stressed, or struggle to manage your time and energy, a developed SQ will provide you with strong tolerance and understanding. It fills you with genuine love and the inner strength to manage yourself well.
Or perhaps you know you have potential but always feel obstacles holding you back. A developed SQ will help you discover your true potential. We were created to overcome these obstacles and return to our strong, wise selves.
If you often ponder the purpose of human life and why we come to this world, a developed SQ will reveal that learning well, working hard, and earning a good income only satisfy physical needs. Human life also requires the development of SQ to discover the truths of life and the universe, bringing you a high level of happiness and helping you realise the value of life.
So, what does this have to do with the age of AI?
You all know about the Industrial Revolution, right?
The Industrial Revolution gave people more freedom. It liberated human physical labor, mechanising many heavy tasks and freeing people to pursue other activities like education, art, and research.
What about the AI Revolution?
AI is freeing our brains, liberating intellectual labor. The rapid development of AI is changing our work and lifestyles. Many tasks requiring high intellectual effort can now be automated, freeing us to focus on more meaningful and valuable things.
In other words, it enables the growth of our SQ.
So, to answer my opening question: What can and can't the current education system do? It can provide us with knowledge and skills, but it fails to sustainably develop our SQ—the key to sustainable happiness, inner growth, and life value.
With the advent of the AI age and the liberation of intellectual labor, we have the opportunity to develop our SQ, to relieve mental and life stress, to enjoy the joy of life, and to manifest the value of life.
While AI has no soul or spirit, a developed SQ equips us with a soul rich in wisdom, love, energy, and beauty. We won't be eliminated by the times but, along with AI, will create a healthier, more civilised, and hopeful world.
Regarding how young people can find their life direction, the impact of artificial intelligence on people, and how young people can take responsibility in a diverse and changing world—it all depends on how we accelerate our growth. This growth encompasses all aspects of ourselves, not just IQ and EQ, but also adversity quotient (AQ) and spiritual intelligence (SQ).
You are welcome to join us as we prepare for our own growth and the growth of humanity.
Warm regards,
Ms. Yan Chen
